This Wedsite of Family Ancestors is dedicated to my father
John Lewis Lomond and his brother Sidney Lomond (sons of Isaac and Esther Lomond)
who lost their lives in an explosion in the south side hills of St. John`s, Newfoundland on November 28,1953.
My ancestors on the south west coast of Newfoundland started with George and Sarah Lomond of Point Rosey and William Buttery of St. Helier, Jersey Island.
Lovell`s 1871 Directory listed Point Rosey as a small fishing settlement on the south coast of the Newfoundland, district of Burgeo and La Poile. It was in contemplation to erect a lighthouse on this point. Distant from Channel is 6 miles by boat. Mail was fortnightly and population was 25.
The Island of Jersey is situated 14 miles off the north-west coast of France and 85 miles from the English coast. Jersey is the largest of the Channel Islands with a surface area of 117 square kilometres (45 sq miles) and a population of approximately 85,000.
